10 Majors to Avoid

In a perfect world, everyone would be able to pursue their passion and earn a comfortable wage. However, it is important to realize that some degrees just don't lead to that many career choices. Below are 10 of the least valuable college degrees attainable.

1) Anthropology and Archeology: With unemployment rates of 10.5% and 6.2% respectively, neither Anthropology and Archeology majors are in high demand.

2) Film, Video, and Photographic Arts: Median salary of 30,000-50,000 and unemployment rates up to 12.9%.

3) Fine Arts: Median salary between 30,000 and 45,000 with unemployment rates up to 13%.

4) Philosophy and Religious Studies: Median salary between 30,000 and 48,000 with unemployment rates between 6.8% and 10.8%

5) Liberal Arts: Median salary between 30,000 and 50,000 with unemployment rates between 6.2% and 9.2%

6) Music: Median salary 30,000 to 45,000 with unemployment rates between 4.5% and 9.2%

7) Physical Fitness and Parks Recreation: Median salary 30,000 to 50,000 with unemployment rates between 4.5% and 8.3%

8) Commercial Art and Graphic Design: Median salary between 32,000 and 49,000 with unemployment rates between 7.5% and 11.7%

9) History: Median salary between 32,000 and 54,000 with unemployment between 10.2% and 5.8%

10) English Language and Literature: Median salary between 32,000 and 52,000 with unemployment rates between 6.2% to 9.2%.

  1. I like how you listed ten of the majors to avoid. I didn't think commercial arts and graphic design would've had such a high unemployment rate. Also I think this post could be better if you added a few pictures.

  2. This post captured my attention because I am still undecided on what field of business to go into. I think its interesting that Anthropology is the number 1 major to avoid. My sister majored in Anthropology at Loyola University Chicago and is now fully employed making a good living, but there are always exceptions. I was glad to see that zero Business majors appeared on this list of 10 majors to avoid.
